OUR HISTORY

Where it all started…

Christ Community Church is a Christian church, unaffiliated with any particular denomination.  It was started by Jimmy and Dee Coates in September 2010 with the support of Trinity Church in Virginia Beach, where Jimmy served as Community Pastor for four years. Before that, Jimmy had been on staff with Young Life, and also served several years at another church in Virginia Beach. Christ Community was born out of a felt need and calling from God to shape a church with a simple approach to Christian community and discipleship. 

The first service was held in the Coates’ home and soon moved to the Hilltop YMCA. In September 2011 we began meeting in the gym at Friends School and in September 2019 we moved to Cape Henry Collegiate. During the COVID-19 pandemic, from March 2020 thru October 2021 we met for Sunday worship via Zoom, then at Great Neck Park, and finally at the DoubleTree Hotel in Virginia Beach. We returned to Cape Henry Collegiate in November 2021, which is where we currently gather for our Sunday worship service. Throughout the years, no matter if we meet in a gym, a park, on Zoom, or a hotel ballroom, our focus has remained on our call: Helping One Another Daily Follow Jesus.
